The Bharathidasan University

The Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India, is named after the revolutionary Tamil Poet Bharathidasan, established by the Government of Tamilnadu in 1982, as an affiliating University with the coat of arms, "We will create a Brave New World".

The Bharathidasan University is an institution imparting and offering educational courses. It was recognized by the University Grants Commission in 1985. It is a member of the Association of Indian universities. It is accredited by NAAC at 'A' level among the universities.

Now, the Business Development Centre of Bharathidasan University collaborates with Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts to offer this unique Off-campus Degree Programme for the benefit of the Bharathanatyam lovers all over the country and abroad.

Rev. Msgr. S.M.George,
a visionary and pioneer
who founded Kalai Kaviri in 1977;
Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts in 1996;
and now, is the Director
for the Off-campus Degree Programme in Bharathanatyam.


KALAI KAVIRI COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS

Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, started in 1996, belongs to the Catholic Diocese of Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu, India. It is a premier institution with a backing of its parent institution Kalai Kaviri which has to its credit, 30 years of involvement in cultural arts, 25 years of offering systematic training and 17 years of offering university affiliated Full-Time Courses in Bharathanatyam and South Indian Classical Music (Vocal and Instrumental).

Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts is affiliated to the Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India and it is approved by the Government of Tamilnadu. It is accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC. The college offers Bachelor's and Master's Degree courses as a regular programme for the past 10 years and is upgraded to offer Ph.D. programmes in Dance and South Indian Classical Music (Vocal and Instrumental).

                                     

Students from different parts of India, like Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Andaman and from countries like Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Mauritius, come here to learn Dance and Music. Many of the graduated students are now teaching this classical dance all over Tamilnadu, in different states of India and abroad.

Kalai Kaviri, through her committed Cultural services, has brought the institution from merely offering Part Time Courses to the academic height of Ph.D. Programme in Bharathanatyam, a rare and unique venture in the above field.

In the course of her cultural journey, she has built up professional standard, faculty, infrastructure etc. to meet the requirements of remarkable academic levels.

It is Kalai Kaviri's sustained wish to extend her cultural service to the entire nation and to those abroad, very particularly to those artistes who have served the Classical Dance, with decades of experience and expertise. Hence, she launched this Off-campus Degree Programme in Bharathanatyam in colloboration with the BHARATHIDASAN UNIVERSITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, in the academic year 2004-2005, which is the first venture in the entire country, in the field of academics for Bharathanatyam.

Students from the states of Tamilnadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Assam in India and from countries like Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Oman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Germany, United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, France, Canada and United States of America are already benefiting from these courses.

The strength of the students for this programme keeps growing year by year with 45 students in 2004-2005, 62 students in 2005-2006, 170 students in 2006-2007 and 220 students in 2007-2008.
